Mariah Carey Mourns the Loss of Her Mother and Sister
Mariah Carey has revealed the heartbreaking news that both her mother, Patricia, and sister, Alison, passed away on the same day.
On Monday, 26 August, the 55-year-old Grammy Award winner expressed her deep sorrow in a statement shared with an international publication and requested privacy during this challenging time, stating: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend.”
Patricia, an 87-year-old former opera singer, played a significant role in shaping Carey’s musical talents. However, their relationship was complicated, as described in the singer’s 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey”.
Carey reflected on their bond, noting that it was filled with a mix of emotions, including pride, pain, and admiration. Despite their differences, the songstress cherished the time she spent with her mother before her passing.
Alison, 63, had been receiving hospice care prior to her death. Carey had distanced herself from her sister due to past conflicts, finding it safer to have no contact. The strained relationships with both her mother and sister were significant aspects of Mariah’s life, as explored in her memoir.
